The team at Realm were appointed to conduct a peer review of a previous landscape design and create new proposals for Vida Hotel in Bahrain. The hotel is connected by a large mall and promenade which form part of Bahrain’s new Al Marassi quarter, which seeks to create a sustainable new city and exemplar of energy efficiency for the Middle East.
A simple xeriscape style planting palette was proposed which created a strong contemporary structure to the gardens, with flowing grasses and tall palm groves providing shade, interest and reducing irrigation requirements.
As the external space to each site was very tight, the majority of the gardens were implemented over the basement podium structure, effectively creating large roof gardens that created views and vistas from within the building interior.
